Children of Kosovo

Children are the same the world over and the young people of Kosovo are no exception. They grow up as Kosovar Albanians, Serbs, Roma, Ashkali and "Egyptians", Turks and Bosniaks, happy, curious and friendly as the children shown here, over 40 years ago. But as the subsequent events have shown, terrible atrocities have been commited, with those children either perpetrators or victims. The Kosovo War, when thousands were driven from their homes or killed, happened 30 years after these photos were taken and revenge attacks still happen.

But the younger generation is always the hope of the previous one, so one can only hope that Kosovo's children of whatever origin learn from the mistakes of their elders and manage to live in peace.
