Driving up from Mbabane along the road leading to Piggs Peak, there is a mountain range in the west, along the South African border, called Ntababomvu (meaning Black Mountain). Along this road boys may be seen who try to stop passing cars by performing impromptu "sibhaca" dances and then trying to sell wooden bowls made by their relatives, attractive dishes with different coloured wood.
Along a road going east from Piggs Peak towards Luve is Maphalaleni with traditional homesteads. Typical of Swaziland are the beehive shaped grass huts known as "gucqasithandaze", meaning "kneel and pray", in indication of their shape: a person kneeling with their head to the ground.
The Komati is the largest river in Swaziland. A good view over the Komati valley can be had at Nginamadolo, not far from Piggs Peak. The river crosses the main road south of that town. There are large bouiders and numerous rapids here. Further north, almost at the northern tip of Swaziland, is the much smaller Lomati river, a quiet, scenic spot, popular as a swimming hole for the local kids.
